Being in Your Succulent Greenhouse
By Julian Richardson
Overalls
Light blue, sturdy, and rugged
Bright green hills smother the floor
And the soil, soft brown
5 Submerges the plants.
The roof pointed toward blue
Four walls
Becoming sturdier through time
Stand tall, protecting the growing life.
10 Bright orange burns through the glass
Stained with 12 years of rain and snow.
Weathered.
Pots sit in clusters
Claiming their space.
15 Sitting at a workbench,
With soil and seeds stacked atop it,
You work away, deep in practice
For this has always been your vice
From my birth to my current age
20 Raising me as well as the plants
For being in your succulent garden
Brings growth to the flowers
And peace of mind from the outside.
As the world begins to decay
25 You sit in solitude and nurture these seeds
Into beautiful succulents
And repeat this care each day.
