Body Is Everything?

By Chelsea Sharp

We say we love our women for who they are, no matter what shape and size they are. Body positive is what we aim for and everyone is beautiful. It would be amazing if we actually went through with that idea. People still criticize other women about their clothing choice, make-up choice, how light or dark they are, and any other improvements we want to put on women to make them look “better.” We say one thing and mean another. We transitioned from “thin is in” to “slim thick is all you need.” Decent sized boobs, small waist and a nice behind to get some stares. Unfortunately, this ideal rules out a lot of females that we know. A lot of girls do not have this “ideal” body style, including me. I still catch myself looking in the mirror on how I can lose stomach fat and then I’ll be able to pose pictures on social media without self-criticism. These type of girls are publicized in fashion magazines and clothing websites, and on social media such as Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. It teaches young adults that the “slim thick” figure is what we all should be aiming for, when really we should be aiming to love ourselves in our healthiest way possible. It’s so bad to the point where girls are worried about working out to gain muscle in their behinds instead of their brains. Sorry to insult those who are offended, but we truly as women have to stop changing our bodies for the audience. But then I realized that even if we have those other figures who try to promote body positivity, they are still out-weighed by those who throw their body at the media to collect and show for the world. I’m not too sure what to do and how to fix this problem but I know is to start with my thinking of life.
