Family is all we got, right?

By Chelsea Sharp

I love my family and they love me.

Their essence is amazing and beautiful.

They push me to be the person I am today, subconsciously.

Everyday my mom always tells me how much she loves me.

She never fails to mention how proud she is of me.

I’m always showered with love, even when it’s fake.

Those times when mom needed $20 for gas but no one had any money.

She understood, but in the same time, a new car would appear in their driveway when

We visited. Hmm I thought they didn’t have $20?

I have some family members that are easy to remember.

For instance, my aunt, she’s a character.

She reaches her peak when she’s had too many drinks.

1,2,3 or more. Sometimes I can’t keep count.

Once you see her drunk, you know to avoid her.

I’m pretty sure you would hate to have a drunk in your face.

Their breath constantly smacking you every which way.

I love all my cousins, they are so

Different and unique. I didn’t realize dropping

Out of high school was a new occupation these days.

Hmmm interesting.

I guess inhaling marijuana down the esophagus

Is also a new sport?

It’s weird because we all grew up the same.

If we were all arguing over something stupid, we all got in trouble.

If their grades were slipping like mine, we all would get the same punishment.

All our mothers lived up to the same expectation of us, so what happened?

At first, I thought they were destined to be something great in the future.

I guess that future held babies, getting arrested, laziness, and more

Marijuana.

Did you ever see a high speed chase on I-70 in St. Louis?

It was probably my cousin CJ.

I love them, but I always thought they would grow up the same way I would.

This scares me because I don’t want to become a statistic?

I beat teen pregnancy.

I beat getting addicted to drugs.

I beat dropping out of college to work at Walmart.

Those teenagers, my cousins, my blood, my DNA.

Family is all we got, right?
