the child

by Haiden DeShong

they say there is

a casual sort of violence

about me

i say

it is not true -

and if it is, then

it’s learned;

from

my biology

and

my society

a state of being

                                                  made

second nature,

natural as

flesh and bone.

people say that

i don’t have to think

to cause pain

i just open my mouth

and the words

start to spill -

(words. awful things,

words.)

full of rage,

pain,

and shameless as can be.
