Letter to Her

by Markesia Bailey

The fire behind the you

Is attached to the funny memories we shared

Trying to burn the memories of us

The times you called on me

But I wasn’t there

Your shirt

A mess

Just like your life

The look on your face shows how you try to hide

Hide the pain that’s inside

I wish I was there to fix your hair

And your pride

To fix all the pain that I’ve caused

The love that you’ve lost

As I stare into your eyes

Your glare--

Is a stare.

A stare you use to keep your eyes from watering

Yet, I still see the liquid

And as it fall I see us playing in it

If I had hands I would wipe them

Create more, but ones that aren’t toxic

But I can’t,

So I’m going to look at you from behind the gates.
