Times have certainly changed in 2020 and 2021. The Covid-19 Pandemic hit and wrought havoc across the globe. It changed the way many of us view social interactions, put many out of work, out of their homes, and some it drug through despair and loneliness. Many of us have been quarantined or have lost what the activities that brought us our sense of self. So, what is there to do in an age of loneliness and societal withdrawal in the wake of a pandemic? The answer is simple, to write.

Now some may question whether now is the time to write, with all that is on our minds and the struggles in our lives. That is a worthy question, but this essay intends to tell the reader why they should write. With writing you can withdraw from a world filled with dangers like the biological threat in the case of Covid-19. As well as the emotional and psychological toll of living in a new age of isolation, there is something therapeutic about writing, whether it is putting a pen to a piece of paper or allowing your fingers to glide across the keyboard. Writing lets every one of us escape the dark times we are in, and sometimes eases our minds from the gnawing loneliness-- that sets in at times which we must isolate for the greater good. Now is the time to allow our creative minds to wander and bring forth the next splendid work of literature.

Now is also an era of new experiences and unique ways in which the world is being seen. Never in recent history has the world provided writers with such a dearth of new experiences and views which they can draw upon to write. Now is the time to write, so that others can see how the Covid-19 pandemic affects everyone differently. It can start a new dialogue; people of all races, genders, and sexualities can now share their own unique story about grappling with life amid a pandemic. This is a time for those who have been marginalized in society to have their voices heard. Amid all the information during the pandemic, sometimes there must be attention given to the details of everyday life.

Publishing and writing are now as important as they will ever be. The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way many view the world, and how many see themselves. In this age of loneliness, people need a creative space in which they can return to a sense of normalcy—if only for a fleeting moment. Writing and publishing also give those marginalized voices a way to be heard, even during times in which the sound of it may be drowned out among the belabored groans of a broader society. But through writing and publishing they can overcome this. Now is the time to write again, if not for yourself—then for the person who needs to hear your story.
